Project Log #3

There's a few changes since the last log to the website.

The first change is a home page. Yes, finally there is an actual home page. Right now there aren't any custom functions on the home page, so this week the plan is to give it some automatically generated information ex: the newest question posts and other interesting information that allows the user to click on. The navigation bar is really badly formatted so this will be fixed as well.

In the past when you create a new post the website does not tell you when the post is created. This might be confusing for future users that want to reply to a post but doesn't know if they should (if the post is too old). Now the websites show when the post is created, this works for all users on questions, answers, and comments.

There is also an "edit answer" and "edit question" button. The user that created the answer or question can now go back if they mistyped something and change the text. Comments do not have this function because I would hope each comment to be well thought out before it is submitted.

Each user can now see a "settings" menu. You can change these settings to change different user attributes. Right now there is only one, but I plan to add more customization such as changing user nickname, changing avatars, changing passwords and more.

The functionality of a direct message system is set up! After implementing a better view I can allow users to send messages to other users.

You can do something like this at this point...

It shows the message sent. Yes the view is really ugly but the polishing would come after.

Plans and todos:

More customized home page with automatically generated information

More use attributes in the settings

More sophisticated direct message function

Possibly a friend system

User avatars

Moderation (giving certain people permission to remove content/spam on the website)

These are a few that will definitely be done within a few weeks, if more ideas pop up I will keep it updated.
